The Master DATA SCIENCE aims to train experts in the field of Statistics, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. It will allow them to appropriate an engineering based on new developments in massive data storage and processing. This course focuses on advanced computer engineering based on a mastery of distributed environments, parallel computing and NoSQL databases; and on statistical methods, artificial learning and data visualization adapted to the analysis and modeling of large amounts of data.

In addition to the in-depth courses, models, tools and methodologies for storing Big Data, this Master’s degree focuses on the analytical tools appropriate for the exploitation of Big Data. The training is mainly practice-oriented with a focus on the actual mastery of Data Scientist tools. It therefore focuses on practical work and case studies while integrating these applications into their theoretical context with all the necessary mathematical rigour.

As English is an important subject, courses are dedicated to a TOEFL exam. Courses will be taught by professors from the INP-HB, professors from X-Polytechnique Paris Saclay as well as professionals who are experts in their field. A joint diploma (INP-HB, X Ecole Polytechnique) will be awarded.

As part of the latest Objectives and Performance Contract concluded with the French State, which is in line with the logic of the construction of the Paris-Saclay University, the École polytechnique (l’X) is contributing its original multidisciplinary model combining science and engineering, thanks to a strong integration between its training cycles and its research centre. The multiannual contracts concluded with the State also place emphasis on bringing the school closer to the business world, the necessary partnership policy to be implemented and the resulting increase in the school’s own resources. The creation of Corporate Chairs directly meets these objectives.

It is in this context that Orange SA wished to support the Fondation de l’École polytechnique, and Orange Côte d’Ivoire, the Institut National Polytechnique Félix Houphouët-Boigny (INP-HB) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Statistique et d’Economie Appliquée (ENSEA) as part of the project to create a chair entitled “Data Science Institute” by the academic partners.

The stakeholders thus wish to contribute together to the development of Data Science training. The Chair’s work will focus on the development of teaching, at the national and international levels, with the following threefold objective:

  • Develop, through a master’s degree programme, an engineering profile open to the specificities of data science professions, for which interest, both national and international, is growing.
  • Propose to develop continuous training actions, aimed at active professionals, to help them understand the challenges and practical difficulties of data science.
  • Encourage innovative and original research in data sciences.

The “Data Science Institute” project aims to accelerate the development of data management skills in Côte d’Ivoire and West Africa with a desire, expressed by economic and political actors, to locate both training and added value.
Hosted by two Ivorian institutions, it plans to set up a world-class curriculum of excellence in data sciences, initially for students and then for executives in companies.


Candidates are recruited at a (BAC +3/12th Grade Certificate + 3 years of advanced studies) level with a statistical or IT profile. The duration of the training is two years.

  • Statistical Profile: Statistics, Data Mining, Mathematics, Bio-Statistics, Epidemiology, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, Actuarial or any related discipline.
  • IT Profile: IT, Telecommunications, Industrial Sciences, Operational Research, Geodesy or any related discipline

Admission to the Master’s degree is gained through entry examination. A first examination session will be organised for residents in Côte d’Ivoire and a second one for residents outside Côte d’Ivoire to take into account travel constraints.

The first class will be composed of 25 auditors.


The first year will be completed at INP-HB in Yamoussoukro. Students will be housed on the school’s campus.

The second year will be held in Abidjan and will include a 4 to 6 month internship period.
